Note on Locally Produced Children's Programs
All broadcasting, radio and television, was broadcast live until the mid-1950s, when magnetic recording devices were employed. Even then, because of the cost of raw tape stock and no idea of future commercial value, most locally produced news and other programming continued to be broadcast live up through the 1970s, and very few of these programs were ever recorded and fewer were saved.
This is especially true for children's programs like the syndicated "Romper Room," and local productions like "Corky, the Clown" and "Cookey & the Captain."
